SERVICES OFFERED FOR FACULTY MEMBERS AND STUDENTS

Library Orientation  

Every semester just after the opening of classes, the Library Staff, in coordination with the Languages Department conducts a virtual tour – library orientatiion.  Copies of the handbook are distributed to complement the presentation.

Book Display

A book display (one of the regular library features) is found in each Section of the library.  A list of new books is posted on the library’s bulletin board, faculty rooms and offices.  The new books are placed on display for browsing for one weed before finally put into circulation.

Automated Index to Periodicals

Much of the information available in the library is in the form of articles in periodicals, government and other reports and bulletins.  Individual periodical articles and bulletins however, are not found in the card catalog.  It is therefore necessary to consult the Periodicals Section staff.

Photocopy

Photocopiers are available at the Technical Services section, groundfloor and at the 2nd level of the libray.
Cost per copy:        PhP 1.50 (best copy)
                            PhP 0.75 (good copy)

Recall/ Reservation

After exerting efforts in finding a book and still it cannot be located, fill out a call slip (found at the top of card catalog) with complete call number, author’s surname and title of the book and submit to the circulation staff on duty.

Term Paper Clinic

The library provides bibliographic assistance to students.

Dissemination of Information

The library carries out Selective Dissemination of Information.  Relevant articles from recent periodicals in different disciplines are gathered and distributed to respective Deans of Colleges and Faculty.

Table of Contents (TOC’s)

Table of contents of recent professional journals are photocopied and sent to Department Chairpersons and Deans for updates on the latest articles in their fields of specialization.

Vertical File Material

This includes clippings, pamphlets, brochures, booklets which are arranged in alphabetical order by subject.

Reference and Information Service

This is a service given to the library user on how and where to locate his/her information needs.

Automated Circulation

Charging and discharging of books are computerized.  It also records the library’s daiyly performance and provides bibliographic information.

On-Line Public Access Catalog (OPAC)

Make use of computer instead of the traditional Card Catalog in finding the right materials for the right topic.

On-Line Search

Retrieving research data is done through the computer where the needed data are stored in a central unit.

On-Line Renewal / Reservation

Using the PIN (can be secured from the Circulation); library user may now have their borrowed books renewed through on-line.

Pathfinder

A bibiliography prepared by the library staff for a particular topic/subject area taken from the informatin resources (cds, books, on-line databases) available in the library.  It is intended to help you get started doing your research.

INTERNET

The internet is a complex web smaller regional network.  It is like a modern road network of trancontinental superhighways connecting large cities.  For these large cities come smaller freeways and parkways to link together small tows, whose residents travel on slower, narrow residential ways.

The Net Superhighway is the high-speed Internet.  Connected to this are computers that use a particular system of transferring data at high speeds.  Connected to the backbone computers are smaller networks serving particular geographic regions.  Feeding these are even smaller networks or individual computers.

The INTERNET offers:

FTP: File-transfer protocol-access to hundreds of file libraries (everything from computer software to historical documents to song lyrics).  One is being able to transfer these files from the Net to the computer.

WWW: Browse the Internet using popular software like Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox and see the graphical side of the Net.  Enjoy the multimedia experience in the World Wide Web.

E-mail: Electronic Mail.  Mail a friend or someone across the globe using Yahoo, Hotmail, and Eudora and USLS domain.  Now, one does not have to wait for a long time when sending and receiving mails.
