Library Rules

GENERAL RULES

The library is the “brain” of the university and plays an indispensable role in accomplishing the goals of the respective colleges.  In order to perform its functions to the satisfaction of all its users, it needs everybody’s cooperation.  The following rules should be strictly observed:

  1. Observe SILENCE.  Idle conversation, loud laughter, and other unnecessary noise disturb the readers and must therefore be avoided.  Discussion must be done in subdued tones.
  2. Turn off/mute cell phones while in the library.
  3. Refrain from eating, smoking or sleeping in the library.
  4. Return newspapers and magazines to their proper places.
  5. Return to their proper places books belonging to a set, such as encyclopedias.  Do not return books to their shelves in the reading area.
  6. Handle books and other materials with care: they are intended for the use of many.
  7. Use of Identification Cards.  When borrowing and returning library materials, present your properly validated School Identification Card.  You are responsible for any library materials drawn upon it.

Responsibility for Materials

    Library users are reminded that all books, periodicals and other visual or non-visual materials are the property of the University of St. La Salle and may not be removed from the library without proper authorization.  No library item should be clipped, marked or otherwise mutilated.  Commission of any such act constitutes an offense and carries with it corresponding sanctions as may be imposed by the College Discipline Board.

Rules on Circulation

    Non- Filipiniana books may be borrowed for three (3) days and may be renewed for another three (3) days unless called for by another user.

Rules on “Reserve” Books

    “Reserve” books are issued for one hour at a time, for room use only.  Extension for additional hours may be granted unless there is a prior demand by another reader.

Photocopy Slips

    In cases where photocopier machines are not available, photocopy slips are issued for a borrower who wishes to bring the book/journal outside the library for reproduction.

RULES ON “TECHNOLOGY” USE

General Rules

    Only bonafide students, faculty and staff are allowed to use Library Technology facilities.  Every patron is expected to use the equipment and resources properly and responsibly.

  1. No food, drinks and smoking are allowed in the facilities.
  2. A person is limited to only one computer.
  3. Computer games are not allowed.
  4. There should be no loud group conversation or music.
  5. Return all borrowed materials in their original condition before leaving the facility.
  6. Leave all hardware and furniture in their original places.
  7. Attachment of personal hardware to computers is not permitted.
  8. The maximum time allowed for the use of a terminal is one (1) hour, except for research work and upon request.
  9. The library is not responsible for any lost, misplaced or stolen personal items.

Printing

    Printing request is on a first come, first served basis.  The following procedures should be followed to facilitate printing.

  1. Secure and properly fill up Printing Request Form (PRF) from staff on duty.
  2. Return the accomplished form to the staff on duty.
  3. Secure Payment Form and proceed to the Business Office for payment.
  4. Present Official Receipt (OR) to the staff on duty and claim requested print-out.

Getting Help

    Should you need any help, call the attention of the staff on duty.

Loss of Privileges

    Privileges will be lost for the following violations:

  1. Allowing another person to use one’s account and password without written consent.
  2. Copying materials or site-licensed software that are protected nder copyright law.  One is solely liable for any unauthoru\ized copying or illicit use of any facility resource.
  3. Reconfiguring the operating system.
  4. Theft or vandalism of any hardware or peripherals at the workstations.
  5. Accessing of pornographic materials.  Your name will be submitted to the Discipline Officer for further disciplinary action.

Authority

    All staff on duty (including student assistants)  has the authority to eject you from the facility and/or report you for violations stated above.

Other Materials for Library Use Only

    These are: general reference(R: Fil-R) encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, theses, periodicals, Filipiniana, Asiana materials, La Salliana microforms, and CDs.

Allowable Number of Books that may be Borrowed

  1. A student may be allowed to borrow three (3) books at a time, provided he/she has no unreturned books.
  2. A bonafide USLS faculty member may borrow reference books up to a maximum of fifteen (15) titles for a period of 15 days, which may be renewed for the same period unless called for by another user.
