    The largest and the most updated La Sallian library in the country equipped with highly skilled staff, the collection of books,   non-print, on-line databases, archives and other resources for reference research.

Mission

    The mission of the USLS Library is to provide complete, quick and easy access to recorded knowledge and information resources to the academic and support programs of the University, its affiliates and other users, which are necessary to achieve their educational, research and professional goals.
    The Library using its resources to the fullest, accomplishes its mission through the following objectives:

• To acquire the latest edition of books, references, researches, library materials print and non-print
• To develop access to electronic resources on the Internet, acquire On-Line Databases
• To design effective use of instructional services and programs that foster learning and collaborations with faculty in other academic units of the university;
• To provide customer-oriented assistance in selecting, locating and using the resources
• To provide information and knowledge in many formats
• To protect intellectual freedom
• To provide an environment conducive to learning
• To provide scholarship for those economically deprived but intellectually deserving students through working students scholarship
• To participate in resource sharing programs, including cooperative purchasing and interlibrary loan.

History

    Welcome to the University Library!

The present three level building was built and occupied in April 1983.  La Salle Bacolod started in 1952, the library occupied the ground floor of the Science Laboratory Building and remained there for thirty years.  Today the ground floor has been turned into the Museo Negrense de La Salle.

The Utopian dream of having a separate building to accommodate the vastly increasing library collection and clientele became a reality through the efforts of the Brother president, Bro. Rafael Donato, FSC.

Today, the collection includes 91, 140 books; 2, 356 volumes of bound periodicals, pamphlets and monographs.

In June 1993, the Library started introducing library technology to its clientele through the application of automation in the circulation area and the use of CDS-ISIS for its periodical index.

In July 1994, through the technical assistance of a visiting professor Bro. Joseph Scheiter, FSC, the library once again took another leap by introducing the use of CD-ROM and microfiche.  These advance equipment such as CD Drives, CD ROMS, and microfiche readers with printer were acquired through the generosity of the Brother President, Bro. Rolando R. Dizon,FSC and JRR Dizon Foundation.  The grant of P1 million which developed the library technology, thus creating the JRR Dizon Foundation Library Technology Center.

February 1995 saw another milestone in Library Technology development with the introduction of global networking of information or the INTERNET.

In June 1996, library technology made a quantum leap in providing the College of Engineering, Computer Center and some offices of the College with INTERNET services.  Now, e-mail accounts are available for free.

In 1997 the building underwent major renovation and was renamed Alfredo M. Montelibano, Sr., AFSC Library in honor of the man who had been La Salle’s major benefactor through the family’s generous donation of land that has become the USLS campus.

In February 1998, the library spearheaded its extension programs of the INTERNET services that hooked most of the offices in the College Unit of the University.  Networking has also been effected in cooperation with the Institutional Committee for Electronic Networking (ICEN) to enable the different colleges gain access to student records directly from the Registrar’s Office.

In June 2001, the Supreme Court of the Philippines cited the College of Law Library of the University of St. La Salle as the recipient of the Model Centennial Library among 10 other schools nationwide.

The year 2002 has been favorable to the library.  The construction of the Health Science Library and the Multi Media room is a grand achievement that ushers the library into the 21st century.
